All of you must know Junaid Akram, who is the maker of viral videos in Pakistan. In a very short span of time. So, we decided to take him on board and asked few questions from him.
Here are the questions we asked Junaid Akram;
Q1. First of all, let’s start with your early life, tell us about your early education and your field of speciality ?
Answer: I did my graduation in Economics from Karachi University. Made an attempt to do MBA but had to drop out due to a lot of work load and household responsibilities.
Q2. What kind of work you do in UAE ? and for how long you have been there ? And why did you prefer UAE for pursuing your professional life?
Answer: I was a resident of Karachi all my life and during the period between 2008 and 2011, Karachi had its worst in terms of security and street crime were at peak – not to mention the unfathomable load shedding. I got tired of it all and decided to move out. Dubai seemed like the easiest option considering our passport and the limited means I had. I had a break and now I’ve been here for nearly 5 years now. Right now, I am working for an engineering firm in supply chain management.
Q3. Which kind of Social or Political change in Pakistan would motivate you to come back here? In short, how you want to see Pakistan?
Answer: In my humble opinion, I think the only way we can make a drastic change is through education – though it’s long-term and we’ll only reap its fruits after an entire generation grows up reading unbiased history and more emphasis on science and technology. From my personal perspective, what keeps most Pakistanis out of Pakistan is the way people behave. This is not weakness, this is an utter shame that even in this day and age, our society doesn’t even pass a smile when you walk by or be helpful without drawing any prejudice or judgment. I want to see a Pakistan where people are more courteous and gentle.
Q4. How did you get the idea of making videos like these ? What motivated you to do so ?
Answer: The last decade was very depressing for our nation. Though we’ve achieved a number of channels but sadly all they broadcast was sadness and despair – as if we were short of it anyway. I personally felt there wasn’t enough comedy happening in Pakistan and my personal experience as an audience was that it allows escapism from your mundane realities though only for a little while but it’s pleasant. So I just started doing it and one thing leads to another and here I am.
Q5. What are your Future plans ? Do you have any plans to start any campaign to make Pakistan better?
Answer: The problem is, whenever you try to do good for the country, you’re either suspected or halted. For example, we had this cleanliness campaign in Karachi a few weeks ago where lots of celebrities partook but sadly the court ordered their arrest. It’s like we don’t want anything good in life. But even then, through my online platform, I’ll try to raise as much awareness among masses as I can hoping to change at least one person who can look at things from a different perspective.
Q6. What is your inspiration? Which is the person that you think has an ideal personality
Answer: It’s a very wide subject. Lots of great people have existed throughout history who’s done wonderful things for the people. I think anyone with empathy for others, kindness and respect for fellow humans is an ideal personality. It’s such a rarity these days.
Q7. You few words for the readers.
Answer: Whatever your problems are, remember it’s only your present – not your entire life. There’s a whole world out there full of opportunities and great things. Explore it. Whatever your passion is, stick to it. Fail a hundred times but still try 101st time because trying and failing is better than failing to try.
