Kianoush Rostami, an Iranian athlete who stunned the world by winning the gold medal as well as setting a new World Record with a total lift of 396 kg. In the category of 85kg, he crowned the first place at Rio Olympics 2016.
A 25 years old athlete from Kermanshah Province, Iran is setting the bar high for his rivals. He has beaten a Chinese (Tao Tian) and a Romanian (Gabriel Sincraian), who lifted 390 kgs combined, while, an additional 6 kg pushed him towards the gold medal. In the past, He had also won the gold medal in 2011 World Weightlifting Championship.
In a statement, he said, “I am very happy to present Iran a gold medal, i will be striving to earn more for my country.”. Rostami has achieved all of this without having a professional coach for his heavyweight lifting career. His immense determination has made his way towards the Gold medal at Rio Olympics 2016.

Before his turn, in which he made the world record, he knelt down, kissed the floor and made his prayer to Allah. Which according to him gave him the strength to win this gold medal.
There are many other athletes from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt etc are participating in this Olympics. But all of them were not able to earn a medal except Rostami. Meanwhile, Saudia has lifted the ban on Women running, which made a 22 years old Saudi athlete, Kariman Abuljadayel, the first woman to finish the 100m run for the first time in Saudi Arabian history.
While, the silver medal was awarded to Tian Tao, who lifted 395kg and Bronze medal was awarded to the Romanian athlete Gabriel Sincraian, who lifted 390kg and Gold medal was awarded to Rostami who was ahead of Tao and Sincraian.
